November arrived with chilly autumn winds, setting the maple leaves ablaze in brilliant shades of red across the skies of Kyoto. In an old wooden house beside a quiet canal, Haru carefully organized the shoe shelf in preparation for the year’s end. From the corner of the cabinet, she gently took out a gift box wrapped neatly in traditional Furoshiki cloth. Inside was a pair of low-height wooden Geta clogs with deep red velvet straps — a gift her mother had personally chosen for her.
Unlike the tall and bulky traditional Geta, this pair featured a flat wooden sole with only a slight elevation, designed to support the feet in the most comfortable and graceful way. The natural wood carried a warm tone, showcasing rustic flowing grain patterns like the texture of ancient forest trees, perfectly contrasting with the luxurious crimson velvet straps.
Haru slipped her feet into the clogs and softly stepped onto the wooden veranda.
